Curriculum Vitae

Yip Kim Fung, alias Bill, has gathered over 22 years of experience in making films, TV programs and commercials.

After graduating from Hong Kong Baptist University and briefly working in RTHK, Bill joined the flourishing film industry in the 80’. Being assistant director, scriptwriter and also production manager, he took part in over 20 highly acclaimed quality feature films. Some of them went to major film festivals such as Oscar, Cannes, Golden Horse and Hong Kong Film Award. He greatly benefited by working with world-renowned directors such as Pucchi Leung, Wayne Wang, Sylvia Chang, Marion Hansel, Masashi Yamamoto, Francois Girard and Larry Lau.

He also writes scripts for TV and films occasionally. One screenplay is collaboration with Sylvia Chang entitled “Three Summers”, which was a nominated film in Hong Kong Film Award and Golden Horse Film Award. The intricate simplicity of the film has later drawn invitation from Sundance Film Festival and Toronto Film Festival. His script collaboration work with Chan Man Keung in “The Boxer” was nominated for 3 awards in Golden Horse Award including Best Picture and Best Director.

Bill often freelances for Radio Television Hong Kong as director. To date, over 30 TV programs have been produced. Honorably, his episode from The Brave Young Teacher has been selected by RTHK as a classic as it successfully creates the genre of docu-drama in local TV which still prevails.

In 1997 Bill was hired by Bentley Porter Novelli, the world’s second largest PR agency, as Associate Creative Director. His agency experience continued when he later became the Director of Creative Solutions for MediaMix Ltd. for another 2 years.

Having determined to focus on film and TV production, Bill left advertising and set up his own production house to specialize, till now, in directing and producing various works in the forms of TV commercial, corporate video, infotainment, drama, documentary and feature film.

Due to his combined expertise in film, event and stage production, Bill was invited by the Macau Government in 2004 and 2005 respectively to produce the opening and closing ceremony performances in a major international conference (PATA) that took place in Korea and Macau; whereas he was also hired as the Producer of the 2005 PATA Conference Organizing Committee.

Bill used to be the committee member of Creative Horizon, an art group in alliance with Dr. Lester Chan, Law Koon Lan, Dr. Lo Wai Luk, Mui Cheuk Yin and some other prominent local artists. Together with other members, Bill was appointed as Artists at Residence by Tsun Mun Town Hall for two consecutive years.

Bill is also a part time lecturer, and has taught in City University Hong Kong and Hong Kong Baptist University respectively.
